============================================================================= ============================================================================= DisplayLink macOS Software Release Note Version: 4.3.1 (206) Date: 2nd October 2018 ============================================================================= ============================================================================= A. Introduction =============== This is DisplayLink macOS software v4.3.1 release. The first maintenance update of release 4.3. This release delivers the following updates: - Enables extend and mirror mode for one DisplayLink screen, using AirPlay, for macOS 10.13.4+. For more information on this, see our knowledgebase article here: http://support.displaylink.com/knowledgebase/articles/1854724 - The ability to select more and higher resolutions for the extended DisplayLink screen using AirPlay - If using multiple DisplayLink monitors, users can select which display is extended via a configuration file - Critical bug fix for products using DisplayLink DL-6xxx series - Bug fixes and compatibility improvements for all products v4.3.1 includes a critical bug fix in the USB driver necessary to keep using products based on DL-6xxx series. A change in the DL-6xxx embedded firmware distributed with DisplayLink software released after 15th November 2018 will prevent previous DisplayLink macOS software releases from recognising products using newer firmware version. Any DL-69xx product which has been connected to a client device running DisplayLink software released after 15th November 2018, and then connected to macOS will require DisplayLink macOS driver version 3.1.1/4.3.1 or newer for correct operation. DisplayLink strongly recommends you validate and switch to this version as soon as practical for macOS 10.11-10.13 users. Mirror or extend of more than one DisplayLink is not supported in 10.13.4+. Support for multiple mirror or extended DisplayLink displays is restored in macOS 10.14. If you require mirror or extended of multiple displays, we recommend that you stay on macOS 10.13.3 or earlier, or update to 10.14. A full list of known issues can be found in the "Known issues and limitations" section below. To see a more complete list of resolutions follow these steps: - Open the Displays preference in System Preferences - Go to the preferences panel for the DisplayLink screen - While keeping the option (alt) key pressed, select the "Scaled" option for the list of resolutions. The internal screen is kept active while in clamshell mode on OSX systems with a single HD3000 graphics card. Manual Ethernet speed setting is not retained across reboots. (20973) Limitations in macOS 10.13.4-10.13.6 High Sierra -------------------------------------- Mirroring or extending of multiple DisplayLink displays is not supported in 10.13.4, 10.13.5, and 10.13.5. If you require mirror or extend mode for multiple DisplayLink displays, we recommend that you stay on macOS 10.13.3 or earlier. Alternatively, update to macOS 10.14 Mojave. Limitations in macOS 10.13.3 High Sierra -------------------------------------- Mirroring virtual screens is not currently supported in High Sierra. When attempting to mirror external screens, the Window Server may crash and/or all screens may blank. (25553) - For more information see http://support.displaylink.com/knowledgebase/articles/1812676 When plugging in or unplugging monitors with single EDID or no EDID, the Window Server may crash and/or all screens may blank. (26768) The Accessibility Zoom feature will show corruption and only affect a small area of the screen. (26056) "System Extension Blocked" message displayed after installation. This is expected since High Sierra due to a stricter security policy. - After installation, macOS may require the DisplayLink system extension to be enabled in System Preferences -> Security & Privacy -> General. Click on Allow and restart the system. - For more details please visit http://support.displaylink.com/knowledgebase/articles/1188004 Mac systems not supporting Metal will also be affected by the limitations in the following section. For a full list of compatible systems please see https://support.apple.com/en-gb/HT205073 Limitations in OS X 10.11, macOS 10.12 and macOS 10.13 on systems not supporting Metal -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- macOS 10.12 Sierra issues resolved in 10.12.x updates (latest tested 10.12.6): - contents are not rendered correctly for windows moved to DisplayLink screens. Since 10.12.4, some systems show corrupted window contents in some applications (Word, Keynote, Parallels, VLC for example). (25191) In 10.12 Sierra, missing rendering in Finder when "Displays have separate Spaces" is disabled in the Mission Control system preference. (24543) - Enable "Displays have separate Spaces" to avoid this issue In 10.11 El Capitan, screen corruption in mirror mode. (18862, 19060) All screens black and unusable after unplugging a DisplayLink screen. This is caused by Apple's Window server crashing. This can be recovered by replugging the DisplayLink device. (16155) Some applications show corruption and/or wrong colours on specific UI elements, for example window controls, tabs and menus. This is due to transparent rendering in Mac OS 10.10 and later. (23151) - To work around this issue, open System Preferences->Accessibility and enable the "Reduce transparency" option.
